Long-term outcomes after thoracoamniotic shunt for pleural effusions with secondary hydrops
2019, Journal of Surgical ResearchCitation Excerpt :The antenatal course is variable with spontaneous regression occurring in approximately 20% of primary fetal hydrothorax cases.5 When congenital pleural effusions progressively enlarge and compromise fetal hemodynamics and cardiac function, secondary hydrops fetalis may develop.6,7 The presence of hydrops is an important risk factor for poor prognosis.5
Thinking outside the duct
2018, Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular SurgeryLow fat-containing elemental formula is effective for postoperative recovery and potentially useful for preventing chyle leak during postoperative early enteral nutrition after esophagectomy
2016, Clinical NutritionCitation Excerpt :Because chylomicrons comprise mainly LCT, and LCT is the major component of dietary fat or fat-containing enteral formula, limiting or deleting enteral LCT administration is effective management for postoperative chyle leak. Nevertheless, use of TPN [20,21] or EN containing middle-chain triglycerides (MCT) [19,22] has been reported as a conservative management for postoperative chyle leak. The low-fat elemental formula, ELENTAL® (Ajimonoto Pharmaceuticals CO., LTD., Tokyo, Japan) was recently recommended for the management of postoperative chyle leak [23].
