Although nonspecific, LDH level greater than 90 U/L may be useful for screening for TBP before using more invasive tests such as laparoscopic peritoneal biopsy.64 The utility of adenosine deaminase (ADA) in ascites to diagnose TBP in cirrhotic patients has been debated because ADA levels are lower in patients with cirrhosis, likely due to decreased activation of T cells in response to mycobacterial antigens.
