Secondary parkinsonism due to drugs, vascular lesions, tumors, trauma, and other insults
2019, International Review of NeurobiologyCitation Excerpt :However, parkinsonism appears to be a rare symptom in patients with brain tumors. In most cases of parkinsonism caused by a tumor, the tumor entities were meningeomas (Al-Janabi, Zaman, & Memon, 2019; Cicarelli et al., 1999; Kim, Choi, Lee, & Hong, 2014; Kleib et al., 2016; Polyzoidis et al., 1985) Krauss et al., 1995), followed by gliomas (Choi et al., 2012; Cicarelli et al., 1999; Ho, Lieu, & Hsu, 2008; Krauss et al., 1995; Polyzoidis et al., 1985; Wächter et al., 2011), whereas ependymomas, craniopharyngeomas, pituitary adenomas (Cicarelli et al., 1999; Polyzoidis et al., 1985), and metastases (Hortelano et al., 2010) appear to be rarer causes for parkinsonism. Also vascular space-occupying lesion, including arteriovenous malformations (Goldstein, Friedman, Innis, Seibyl, & Marek, 2001), cavernous hemangioma (Alp, Alp, & Ure, 2009; Vhora, Kobayashi, & Okudera, 2001), and dural arteriovenous fistulas (Matsuda et al., 1999), or arachnoidal cysts (Tiple, Angelis, Spallone, & Colosimo, 2010) were described as being causative for parkinsonism in rare cases.
