2021, Clinics in DermatologyCitation Excerpt :A maculopapular eruption, often involving the palms and soles, develops in most patients 7 to 10 days after therapy with ampicillin or with other beta-lactam antibiotics (Figure 1A).5–7 Eyelid and widespread petechiae, periorbital edema usually not accompanied by conjunctivitis (“Hoagland Sign”),15 and urticarial lesions have been described during IM. There may be a maculopapular enanthem and petechiae, localized between the hard and soft palate, often coalescing (Figure 1B).5–7,16
Sex difference in clinical presentation of patients with infectious mononucleosis caused by Epstein-Barr virus
2020, Journal of Infection and ChemotherapyCitation Excerpt :Given the lack of previous study on the sex difference of secondary headache due to acute viral infection such as EBV-IM, we believe that our study provides new evidence on the sex difference of secondary headache. Periorbital edema in patients with EBV-IM is sometimes called the “Hoagland sign” [20,21]. Although the prevalence was traditionally reported at up to one-third to half of the patients, some studies have estimated that the actual prevalence is lower [20,22].
