Adolescent haematopyocolpos simulating appendicular abscess

Description
A 13-year-old girl presented with 4 days of lower abdominal pain, vomiting and fever. On examination, she had a tender mass in the lower abdomen and normal secondary sex characteristics. She had not started menstruation. Perineal examination by mother, nurse or female doctor was refused. White cell count was 20.3×109/L, neutrophils 17.1×109/L and C reactive protein 287 mg/L.
