Von Recklinghausen disease in tongue: A case report
2017, Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Medicine, and PathologyCitation Excerpt :In addition NF1 is commonly associated with other disorders such as glioma of the optic pathway, glioblastoma, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor, gastrointestinal stromal tumor, breast cancer, leukemia, phaeochromocytoma, duodenal carcinoid tumor, rhabdomyosarcomas, scoliosis, and neurological or cognitive impairment [13]. Oral soft tissues manifestations of NF 1 vary from 72% to 92% of NF1 s [4,5–8]. The oral masses are usually one to multiple nodules of various sizes and/or a relatively large mass of neurofibromas.
Oral manifestations in patients with neurofibromatosis type-1: A comprehensive literature review
2014, Critical Reviews in Oncology/HematologyCitation Excerpt :As a next step, reference lists of potentially relevant original and review studies (that were found to be relevant in the previous step) were searched and once again any disagreement among the authors was resolved via discussion (Fig. 1). Most of the studies that addressed our focused question were case-reports [15,30–36] and only a limited number of original retrospective studies [12,37] were available on indexed databases; therefore, the pattern of the present study was customized to primarily summarize the pertinent information. Gingival enlargement refers to the overgrowth of the attached gingiva due to an increase in the number of cells and is a common manifestation in patients (particularly children) with NF-1.
