Mesalazine-induced interstitial nephritis in a patient with ulcerative colitis

Description

A 25-year old male with a 10-year history of ulcerative colitis (UC), maintained on clinical remission with mesalazine (1.5 g/day) presented with 1-week history of progressive fatigue and nausea. He had no other symptoms such as fever, arthralgia or skin rashes. He was found to be in renal failure with the following laboratory parameters: serum creatinine 13.9 mg/dl, urea 138 mg/dl, sodium 140 mmol/l, potassium 4.3 mmol/l …
