About BMJ Case Reports
Editor: Dean Jenkins MRCP DipMedEd
Case reports can generate hypotheses for subsequent systematic research leading to a more secure evidence base. Individual case reports can also be educational and illustrative of what may be well known but often forgotten. Case reports are not easy to write but a well written report can be a delight to read.1
Mainstream medical journals are reluctant to publish case reports as they are rarely cited and so have a negative effect on the journal’s impact factor. Those that are published are typically scattered in specialty and subspecialty journals making it difficult to spot trends, eg, adverse reactions to a new drug.
BMJ Case Reports aims to publish a high volume of cases in all disciplines so that healthcare professionals, researchers and others can easily find clinically important information on common and rare conditions.
Beta site
This beta site is free to all and has limited functionality. We will publish accepted cases in raw manuscript form as pdfs. We are working with HighWire Press to develop a sophisticated site to be launched later in the year where we will publish the fully edited articles. This new site will allow users to find cases based on speciality and patient demographics. Users will also be able to respond to published cases, sign up for content alerts and RSS feeds, download images to PowerPoint and much more.
To be alerted to new developments we encourage you to register now
